For the last 4 months, I have attended the regular council meetings at City Hall. I spent my time listening and observing the activities that were performed by the current Mayor and Council. It has allowed me to come to an understanding of how the process works and how I feel I can fit into the role of a councillor and bring my expertise in governance and process to the table.
One thing I have noticed, is that there seems to be a huge disconnect between the citizens of Mission and the municipal government as to how it functions. If I am successful in being elected to council, I would like to see some type of program put in place on a local basis that would offer the citizens of Mission the opportunity to learn how a municipal government functions. I think this would give the citizens a better understanding of process and increase their chances of making their case when they appear before council.
I would also like to say that it is becoming very evident that Mission needs a long term vision for the community. I believe this vision has to be built by all the citizens of Mission. I also believe a long term vision will help to smooth out the process of development of our new and upcoming subdivisons and it would eliminate allot of the tension between the municipal government and the citizens of Mission. I believe you have to have a vision before you can plan.
Have a great weekend
